| The emergence and transmission of pandemic diseases will have a great negative impact on the stable development of human society.As the COVID-19 ravages the world,global public health awareness is rapidly improving,and international language services such as translation are also being valued and favored.In this translation practice,chapter 15 of The Coming Plague,a medical science book written by American journalist Laurie Garrett,is selected as translation materials to carry out relevant translation practice.This report adopts Catford’s translation theory and carries out translation activities according to the principle of preserving the characteristics of the source text to the maximum extent,so as to achieve the effect of completely reproducing the original content and empathizing with the true feelings in the original text.This translation report analyzes and expounds the historical background and specific content of the translated materials,summarizes the characteristics of the original text,and uses the two conversion methods to achieve the equivalence effect of inter-language translation,studies the problems in the translation process,and discusses the solutions.At the same time,in the process of translation practice,translators also take into account the diversity of readers of scientific texts,and adjust the expression mode and style of the translated text,so as to enhance its universality and benefit more people.Finally,The translator believes that the application of Catford’s translation conversion theory can further realize the detailed treatment of the translation,improve the content and structure of the translation practice,and better achieve the effect of medical science popularization.This report is expected to provide a new perspective for other translation researchers and contribute to the development of medical science and translation. |
