Beck’s cognitive theory of depression believes that if an individual encounters a major traumatic event at an early stage,a depressive schema will be formed. The depressive schema will be further activated by other stressful events, which will cause the individual to process persistent and biased negative information about himself, the surrounding environment and the future, which will eventually lead to the individual being in a state of depression for a long time, which has adverse effects on daily life. The influencing factors of depression are multi-faceted,among which mindfulness is both theoretically and empirically related to individual mental health, and mindfulness has been proven to reduce symptoms such as stress, depression, and anxiety.Previous studies have also shown that when individuals are faced with negative emotional information, they will show attentional bias towards negative emotional information, which will further lead to negative emotions such as anxiety and depression.Emotion regulation strategies will alleviate the subjects’ negative attentional bias. Therefore, whether mindfulness affects depression through negative attentional bias, whether mindfulness can affect negative attentional bias to improve depression, whether emotion regulation strategies will play a moderating role in this model during this process, and whether emotion regulation strategies can improve the individual’s negative attentional bias to improve the individual’s depression. This study is divided into two parts. The first study selected 424 college students volunteered to fill out questionnaires,to explore the relationship between mindfulness, depression, emotion regulation strategies, and negative attentional bias, and to explore the role of emotion regulation strategies and negative attentional bias in the effect of mindfulness on depression. The second study recruited 56 college students to participate in this research, used repeated measures experimental design of 2×3×2 to explore whether there are differences in the participants’ attentional bias towards negative information under different levels of mindfulness, and whether two emotion regulation strategies, cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression strategies, can alleviate the participants’ attentional bias towards negative information. This study attempts to answer the above questions and draws the following conclusions:(1)The results of the questionnaire show that negative attentional bias plays a partial mediating role between mindfulness and depression, and expression suppression strategies in emotion regulation strategies regulate the first half of the relationship between mindfulness and negative attentional bias;cognitive reappraisal strategies moderated direct pathways of mindfulness and depression.(2)The experimental results show that the low-level mindfulness group is more likely to pay attention to negative information and has a negative attentional bias than the high-level mindfulness group, and the high-level mindfulness group has higher emotional response flexibility.(3)The experimental results showed that the subjects in the control group had an attentional bias towards negative information, and both the cognitive reassessment group and the expression suppression group could attenuate the subjects’ negative attentional bias.(4)The experimental results showed that the negative attentional bias score of the low mindfulness group was significantly higher than that of the high mindfulness group.Under the action of emotion regulation strategies, the subjects’ negative attentional bias was alleviated.
