| Lewin’s Field theory holds that human external behavior is the product of the interaction of the surrounding environment and the person himself.Therefore,exploring the correlation between the classroom environment and learning achievements is of great significance for building a positive English classroom environment and improving students’ achievements.However,most of the existing research has focused on college,while only limited research on middle school.Therefore,this study adopts a quantitative research method to investigate 119 Grade 8 students in a middle school in Xi’an by means of a questionnaire and analyzes the correlation between the English classroom environment and the achievements of middle school students,mainly discussing the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of junior high school students’ perception of their English classroom environment?(2)Is there a correlation between the middle school English classroom environment and students’ English achievements?(3)If there is a correlation between the two,what are the major differences in perceptions of English classroom environment between students with higher scores and those with lower scores?The results indicate that:(1)Middle school students are generally satisfied with their English classroom environment,among which students have the highest satisfaction with the dimension of teacher support.(2)There is a positive correlation between students’ perception of the overall English classroom environment and their English achievements.Except the student cohesiveness dimension,there is a significant positive relationship between the dimension of teacher support,task-orientation,cooperation,class order and students’ English achievements.(3)There is a significant difference between high-level and low-level groups in the perceptions of the overall English classroom environment,but in the dimension of student cohesiveness,there is no significant difference between high-level and low-level groups in the perceptions of their English classroom environment.Therefore,it is an effective way to improve students’ English achievements by improving the English classroom environment. |
