| A name is a symbol that identifies a person, and it has been used since ancient times, but there is a difference between the ancient and the modern. The ancients were born with "name" and were given a "style name" when they turned 20,both of which have a very close connection in meaning. The ancients focus on the relationship between them mainly for exegesis and proofreading, but they don’t know that behind the name lurks a rich cultural connotation and the characteristics of the times.Records of the Three Kingdoms,as a masterpiece in history, has a rich variety of names and relationships in the book. The names are mainly divided into eight sub-categories:synonymic,antonymic and connected categories, causality referring to reality, causal association, identification of objects and unification of categories, admiration of former sages, and generalization of the meaning of scripture; The names are different from the simple style of the pre-Qin period, but the Three Kingdoms advocate elegance, focus on beauty, and add more beautiful words to decorate the names.Through the above summarized characteristics and rules of the names,we can find out the cultural background of the Three Kingdoms period: strict patriarchal system, the flourishing of Confucianism and Taoism, the pursuit of elegance in aesthetics, and diverse ways of thinking. In this paper,we will discuss the following six aspects. The first introductory chapter deals with the meaning for the selection of the topic, the value of the study, research methods and research overview. The focus is on summarizing the research results of persona from both historical and contemporary perspectives, and put forward the necessity and importance of the topic on this basis. The second chapter sorts out the relationships between the names of characters and summarizes the situation of the character names of Records of the Three Kingdoms.Firstly,I define the names of characters with reference to literature books and previous research results and explain the origin of the relationship between the two;secondly,on the basis of corpus collation,a brief overview of the principles of name selection, the number of names, primary and secondary characters, name relationships and the situation of aliases was given. The third chapter focuses on explaining the corresponding relationships of the names of the characters of Records of the Three Kingdoms, namely the three major categories of synonymy(equivalence and proximity),antonymy(complementary antonymy and polarity antonymy),and correlation(connected categories, causality referring to reality, causal Nassociation, identification of objectsand unification of categories, admiration of former sages, and generalization of the meaning of scripture). The fourth chapter analyses the non-corresponding relationship of the names of the characters of the masterpiece. The characters in this section do not have to correspond to their original names when they are named, and the full characters are purely in the form of combinations of ranking, honorific and beautiful names, which includes four main types, namely the use of ranking words, the use of kind words, the combination of rank and beauty words, and the combination of honorific and beauty words. The fifth chapter analyses the cultural connotations of the name relationships in this book, and reveals the material, institutional, and spiritual cultural information contained in the names based on the linguistic analysis. The sixth chapter is the conclusion, which focuses on summarizing the research results of this paper and reflecting on the shortcomings of the paper. |
