| The source text of this report is chosen from of Biotechnology and its Applications,an American textbook published by Elsevier Ltd in 2021 for graduates and undergraduates.The textbook consists of 19 chapters and introduces the applications of biotechnology in various fields.The translator chooses chapter 16 and 17 as the source text of the report.This practice report aims to explore the translation strategies through which the information of source text can be delivered to the greatest extent and the translation can be well accepted by target readers under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.This source text is a scientific and technological text belonging to informative text.It has distinctive features at three levels.At lexical level,there are a lot of acronyms,terminologies,nominal words,abstract nouns and polysemic words in the original text.Translation methods such as transference,conversion of nouns,adding category words and extension of word meaning are adopted in the translation.At Syntactic level,the passive voice and complex sentences can be translated by methods such as transformation of clauses into phrases,conversion of passive voices and reorganizing the sentence order.At discourse level,there are plenty of chemical equations and the structure of the text is tighter than other informative texts.The characteristics of the discourse are reproduced by adding transitional phrases and reiterating the topics of sentences.This translation practice report consists of five parts: introduction to the translation report,analysis of the source text,translation process,case analysis and conclusion of the report.The fourth chapter acts as the central content of this report.On the basis of the author’s own translation practice of Biotechnology and its Applications,the author analyzes translation methods used in the translation combining with typical cases on the premise of the thorough analysis of the features of the text at lexical,syntactic and discourse levels. |
