Translation Skills Of EST Guided By Translation As Adaptation And Selection

Translation as Adaptation and Selection,based on "natural selection" and "survival of the fittest" in Darwin’s biological evolution theory,discusses translators’ adaptation and selection behaviors in the translation environment.Professor Hu Gengshen then proposed a three-dimensional transformation method from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions to achieve adaptive selection and transformation from language form,cultural meaning,and communicative intention.By this method,a translation with a high degree of holistic adaptation and selection can be obtained.This practice report chooses to conduct a case study of "MCDP 3-01 Offensive and Defensive Tactics" from the Approach to Translation as Adaptation and Selection.Several practical translation skills are summarized including part-of-speech adaption and transformation,adaption and expansion of information(lexical level),adaptive change of word order and sentence form unchanged(syntactic level)as well as adaptive splitting and reorganization of sentence groups(textual level).Using the translation skills proposed in the report can get the translation which is close to the original text as much as possible on content,structure and style,ensure the accuracy and fluency of vocabulary,sentence structure and text translation,and present a translation with high integration adaptability and selection.
