Britain’s cities were devastated by the end of World War II,and reconstruction began.The construction of the welfare state and the construction of new towns became a boom in post-war Britain.Meanwhile,Britain’s inner-city crisis is increasingly exposed.At the same time,the British social economy appeared a series of difficulties: sterling crisis,inflation in Britain.These problems continue to shock British society,the British government to solve the inner-city crisis brought resistance.Under the influence of these factors,the British government from heath government to Thatcher government adopted different ways to ease the inner-city crisis.Although most of the hiss administration’s measures were ineffective in alleviating the inner-city crisis,the establishment of the Department of Environment and measures to investigate and report on inner cities had a positive impact on the inner city initiatives of subsequent governments.During the period of Callaghan government,the measures of the British government became more and more perfect,among which the most prominent was the white Paper on inner City Policy in 1977 and the Inner-City Act in 1978.The white Paper on Inner City Policy in 1977 moved away from the traditional British approach of circumventing inner city governance in favour of recognising social problems and taking an integrated approach to inner city governance.The Urban Areas Act of 1978 embodied the policies of the 1977 White Paper;In part,it pioneered the market-based approach to Britain’s inner cities under Margaret Thatcher.During the Thatcher government,the British government’s inner-city measures were further turned to market,that is,the establishment of urban development companies to attract investment to upgrade the infrastructure of inner city areas.This approach has largely solved the financial burden of the government and updated the backward infrastructure in the inner city,which has a positive effect on the improvement of the environment in the inner city.However,the cost of living in inner cities increased greatly under this measure,and ordinary people could not afford the high cost of living and had to move out.From Heath government to Thatcher government,the governance of the Inner-city crisis in Britain was improved step by step.The inner-city crisis was found in Heath government and solved in Callaghan government,and finally solved to a certain extent in Thatcher government.
