Reflection counterpoint is a logically rigorous and exquisite technique in polyphonic music creation, which embodies the principle of high contrast and unity in music creation. The reflection technique,as a means of melody change, has been widely used in different styles of music creation.Reflection technique, especially in the creation of traditional and modern music works, shows a variety of forms, which has a very important practical significance for music creation and practice. In the reflection counterpoint, the axonal tone plays a crucial role as the central tone.Axonal tone Ⅱ is the subject of most studies of the reflection counterpoint technique, but diatonic and varying tone levels have not been extensively investigated.Based on the axonal tone of the reflection counterpoint,we analyzed the regularity of each pitch level change, the functional characteristics of the pitch level after reflection, the function and change characteristics of two different pitch levels combined with reflection,as well as the mode and tonality change characteristics of the change level.Further,by investigating the practical score examples of reflection counterpoint in both domestically and abroad award-winning works,we demonstrated the feasibility of the reflection counterpoint between the diatonic level and variable level as axonal tone in the change of tonality. Therefore, the theory and creative practice and application can support each other.Analytical induction is used in this paper to address the lack of previous studies on the various characteristics of natural tone levels and varying tone levels in reflection counterpoint. Moreover,we propose that national mode, western mode,or a combination of both modes can be developed as a basis for theoretical research and creative practice of polyphonic music in China.
