Horizontally,cave tombs in the north of China make up an important part of tombs over the Song and Jin dynasties;It has developed as a continuation from that of prehistory,Qin,Han,Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties.In the Song and Jin Dynasties,the cave tomb,based on the Han features,gradually integrated the Liao and Jurchen factors,forming various styles.In northern region,the number of cave tombs of the Song and Jin Dynasties is countless,the shape is diverse,and burial objects is abundant,indicating a wide range of factors such as regions and social status.This article is divided into six chapters.The first chapter briefly defines the geographical range of the cave tombs and summarizes the discovery and research in general.The second chapter categories the shape and structure of cave tombs.According to form of the path leading to a grave,tombs are subdivided in terms of the number and shape of the chamber.The third chapter analyzes the funerary objects.The funeral objects are classified as ceramic,metal,and others for one-to-one analysis.The fourth chapter discusses the division of time and area of the tombs.The location of cave tombs in the Song and Jin Dynasties in the northern region is divided into the Qin and Jin regions and the Henan,Hebei,and Shandong regions where the obvious regional characteristics and regional relations are studied and compared.And the entire Song and Jin period will be divided into six stages based on the characteristics of the tombs in the northern region during different periods.The fifth chapter focuses on the related problems of the cave tombs.Problems are to do with the rank of tombs,the structure of society and burial customs.Through the study of the identity of the tomb owner,the social stratum structure at that time is discussed.The burial customs are revealed,by discussing the four ways of burying,in the same area but different caves,relocation(secondary burial),cremation,and family tombs.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the general situation of the cave tombs in the Song and Jin Dynasties in northern China.
