| Jiang Mengyin(1907-1988),a native of Xinning,Hunan,was a renowned historian.His research covered a wide range of fields,including British history,the history of the First World War,and the history of Sino-British relations.In particular,he pioneered the study of British history in China,laying a solid foundation for the discipline and fostering successors,and thus enjoys a high reputation in the domestic academic community.However,research on Jiang Mengyin is relatively weak,and there are no monographs on Jiang Mengyin,and existing research on Jiang Mengyin is scattered and unsystematic.Therefore,on the basis of Jiang Mengyin’s academic achievements,this article collects relevant historical materials,sorts out his academic activities,analyses his historical views,summarises his historical methods and ideas,and evaluates his historical contributions.This article will explore the following aspects:The introductory section introduces the significance of the chosen topic and the current state of research.Chapter 1,’Jiang Mengyin’s Academic Career’,briefly introduces Jiang Mengyin’s academic transformation and academic achievements.He developed a strong interest in the subject of history in private school and secondary school,established a research orientation in foreign history at university,developed an interest in British history while studying in London and delved into the history of Sino-British relations,and then delved into British history upon his return to China.Chapter 2,’Jiang Mengyin’s Contributions to the Study of British History’,summarises and analyses Jiang Mengyin’s scholarly views on the history of Britain in various periods,discusses his work on the history of Sino-British relations,and summarises his contributions to the education and development of British history in China.Chapter 3,’Jiang Mengyin’s World History Research and Contributions to the Building of the Chinese World History Discipline’,reviews Jiang Mengyin’s research on the First World War,European feudalism,world development and American diplomacy,as well as his contributions to the founding of the Chinese Society for British History,the World History Department at Nanjing University and the cultivation of world history talents.Chapter 4,’Jiang Mengyin’s Historical Thought and Methodology’,summarises Jiang Mengyi’s historical thought and methodology through the study and analysis of his specific treatises.The concluding remarks provide a comprehensive summary of the text and analyse the characteristics of Jiang Mengyin’s historiographical research.He focuses on the application of the materialist view of history to the understanding and analysis of history,on primary historical sources in historical research,and on the practical utility of historiography. |
