A Study On The Writing And Translation Of Liu Bannong’s Novels Before The May 4th Movement

Liu Bannong,as one of the leading figures in the May Fourth New Literature period,is regarded as an incentaute in the history of new literature,and his important literary contribution has been included in the history of literature up to now.However,the creation and translation of Liu Bannong’s novels before the May 4th Movement are always ignored.Liu Bannong’s creation and translation in this period has the characteristics of the transition period between the old and the new,which not only has the inheritance of history but also has the innovation of The Times,which is of great research value.This paper reveals Liu Bannong’s efforts in the period of literary transformation and explores the process of his literary thought and novel concept maturing through three aspects: the motivation of his literary activities,the content of his creation and translation,and the attempt of modernization.This paper is divided into three parts.The first chapter starts with the motivation of Liu Bannong’s literary activities,mainly divided into two periods.On the one hand,it was influenced by family and school education in Jiangyin period,and on the other hand,it was promoted by society in Shanghai period.The life of selling literature in Shanghai influenced his choice of writing style and the formation of his style.The second chapter focuses on the content of the novels created and translated by Liu Bannong,sorting out his representative works and trying to analyze the basic presentation ways of his concerns about reality.All these reflect Liu Bannong as a popular writer to the current environment of constant scrutiny and powerful attack.The period of selling literature in Shanghai also laid the foundation for the formation of his novel view,which reflects Liu Bannong’s thinking and practice on the development trend of novels.The third chapter mainly analyzes the modernity of Liu Bannong’s literary activities,and analyzes the breakthrough of his writing techniques to traditional novels.Liu Bannong as a trans-era writer,his creation and translation of the novel is more characteristic.Not only the traditional flavor but also the modern attempt.The analysis of Liu Bannong’s literary creation and translation in this period can better understand Liu Bannong’s thoughts and make a fair and objective evaluation of Liu Bannong.
