The source text is selected from the educational research report,Using the VALUE Rubrics for Improvement of Learning and Authentic Assessment,written by Terrel L.Rhodes and Ashley Finley.The report explores the important functions of VALUE Rubrics in improving students’ learning and conducting authentic assessment.It will provide guidance for further development of educational assessment in higher education among all the countries in the world.As an information text,the report is focused on promopting the readers’ understanding.Based on the Skopos theory and guided by the communicative translation,the translation of vocabulary,parenthesis and cohesion in discourse are the focuses of case study.In translation of vocabulary,concretization,conversion and delexicalization are used.In the translation of parenthesis,sequential translation,embedding,restructuring and punctuation-aided translation are used.At the level of discourse,cohesion is analyzed,including reference and ellipsis.Reduction,zero translation and conversion are used.The translator hopes that this report can be of great benefit to China’s future work in higher education assessment.
