A Report On The Subtitle Translation Of The Documentary Series Meet Jinan From The Perspective Of Multimodal Discourse Analysis

As a carrier of Chinese culture,Chinese documentaries have become more and more important in the process of China’s publicity and Chinese culture going global,and subtitle translation has also developed.Subtitle translation,the bridge for promoting cross-cultural communication,also serves as an important way for Chinese culture to go global.The translation of subtitles will influence the process of going global.Against this background,the author provided translation services for the Jinan government’s documentary "Meet Jinan",and wrote a translation practice report based on the author’s subtitle translation practice for Meet Jinan.The documentary Meet Jinan,focusing on the varied culture,traditions,and customs of Jinan,gets a closer look into local life.It shows the life and culture of the city to better tell Chinese stories,and shows the world a trustworthy,lovely,and admirable China,so as to achieve a better publicity outcome.The report applies the theory of multimodal discourse analysis to review and analyze the subtitle translation of the documentary Meet Jinan.The author found that when translating subtitles,the translator has to consider all modalities and use multiple translation strategies.By writing this report,the author hopes to provide source texts for future study and some reference and inspiration for the translation of subtitle texts.
