The Origin of the Family,Private Ownership and the State is an important work published by Engels in his later years,in which the theory of "two types of production" is an important principle about the law of human social development, which is a perfection and development of the materialistic view of history.Engels believed that the "two types of production" are the decisive factors of historical development, and the social relations of the "two types of production" govern the social system of a certain period of time.Engels thinks that "two kinds of production" are the decisive factors of historical development, and that the social relations of "two kinds of production" govern the social system of a certain period. However,Engels’ theory of "two kinds of production" has been controversial. In fact, the theory of "two types of production" was not first proposed by Engels in The Origin of the Family,Private Ownership and the State, but has been the consistent idea of Marx and Engels since they founded the materialistic view of history. In The German Ideology,Marx and Engels elaborated on the two different roles of production through "labor producing one’s own life" and "procreation producing the life of others";in Capital,Marx analyzed the "two types of production" in terms of the dialectical relationship between production and consumption. In Capital,Marx analyzed the inner relationship between the "two types of production" in terms of the dialectical relationship between production and consumption;in his anthropological notes,Marx,on the basis of his abandonment of Morgan’s theory, initially elaborated the category of "two kinds of production" in primitive society and used the idea of "two kinds of production" to analyze the structure of primitive society, which laid a solid theoretical foundation for the elaboration of the theory of "two kinds of production".In The Origin of the Family,Private Ownership and the State,Engels elaborates on the theory of "two types of production" and discusses the role of material production in the development of human society, and also the important role of man’s own production in primitive society.Based on the examination of the historical development of the "two types of production",Engels explained the historical role of the social relations of the "two types of production",in other words, the role of blood relations and other social relations in regulating the social system of primitive and class societies.Engels explores the nature of blood relations and argues that it is material production that drives the transformation of blood relations into other social relations.Using the latest anthropological materials of the time,Engels reformulated the theory of the "two types of production" and,in doing so,explained the theory of the social structure of primitive society and the theory of the historical evolution of primitive society, realizing his contribution to Marxist philosophy. In this day and age, applying the theory of "two kinds of production" to analyse the demographic problems of China’s social development can help to promote the adjustment of China’s population policy, achieve a steady improvement in the quality of the population and actively address the problem of demographic imbalance.
