Every mature work of art,its birth has never been inseparable from the influence of the environment,art works not only records the changes of The Times,but also tells the life of people at that time.In the early 19 th century,the roar of steam engine marked the arrival of the industrial age,the continuous development of technology was the integration of buildings,and artists began to paint cities with paintbrushes.In the early 20 th century,American artists,while respecting and learning European art,began to turn their thinking to explore the native American style of painting art.In this process,Edward Hopper’s construction of urban theme painting and the urban spirit he expressed had a profound influence on the American native painting style.His works not only show the American society at that time,but also the mental state of people at that time.The combination of city and emotion makes the viewer can not help but have spiritual resonance.Therefore,exploring Edward Hopper’s city-themed paintings,combined with his own artistic context,also has a certain significance for the study of the city-themed oil painting creation under the national conditions of China.The first chapter and the second chapter of this paper study Hopper’s performance in urban painting by exploring the development process of Hopper’s urban theme as the time clue,explore the picture language by focusing on color and composition,and analyze Hopper’s urban painting through the spectator’s observation Angle,"window" element and dramatic scene.The third chapter discusses the influence of Hopper on my creation of urban themes combined with my creation.Firstly,it explains the influence of Hopper on my creation concept.Secondly,it gives a brief description of my creation experience,focusing on the elaboration of Hopper on the color,composition and observation Angle of my creation.The fourth chapter summarizes the inspiration of Hopper’s urban painting works to me,summarizes my shortcomings in creation and what needs to be improved in future creation.
