| In the big context of "telling Chinese stories and spreading Chinese voice",the author of this thesis translated Essays Written in the Idle Hours of Farming by Ma Huijuan,the famous "thumb writer" from Ningxia.He had an in-depth analysis of the linguistic features,text type and cultural connotation of the source text,and with the help of "creative treason",he managed to break free from the chains and shackles caused by the cultural differences between the source text and the target text.The purpose is to better reproduce the content and feelings of the source text,so as to better translate the book which carries distinctive Chinese culture,and ultimately achieve the expected goal of telling the Chinese story and spreading the Chinese voice in English-speaking countries.This thesis consists of five parts.Part one introduces the background and significance of the translation practice;part two details the tasks accomplished in three translation stages:Before-translation,While-translation and Post-translation.The following part outlines the development of "creative treason" and its application.Then it analyzes the typical cases encountered by the translator and proposed coping strategies under the guidance of "creative treason" including annotation,amplification and substitution of cultural images.Through the time-consuming translation practice and a close case analysis,the author of this thesis finds that in the process of literary translation,translators should have adequate reader awareness and cultural awareness,without which,it is almost impossible to employ "creative treason" and reproduce the beauty of language,content and style of literary texts... |
