Kent Kenner’s Sonata for Trumpet and Piano is an important American classic for solo trumpet.In this paper,through the author’s life and creation background,the music analysis of the works,the performance of the works of three aspects of the discussion,the object of this paper in-depth analysis.First of all,this paper gives a detailed introduction and supplement about Kenner,an important American composer in the 20th century,the basic educational track and the relevant materials of his creative life.Secondly,the paper analyzes the musical characteristics of the works,especially the discussion on the structure of the musical form.Finally,the author combines his own performance experience to provide his own opinion on the performance interpretation of the work.As a commissioned work,Sonata for Trumpet is a rare work in Kenner’s genre.He learned to play the piano at an early age.Writing trumpet solo pieces was a new endeavor,and he was helped along the way by famous composer friends.In terms of musical structure,the three-movement structure of fast,slow and fast follows the consistent creative ideas of the piazza,but in terms of the tonality layout,it shows the influence of modern works and the imprint of personal creation.In terms of playing skills,the skills related to breath retention,understanding of terms,accurate rhythm,and mastery of beat turnover are all connected.However,special attention should be paid to the elasticity of the third movement in performance,and the lyricism of the melody in the second movement must be matched with the stable breath.
