| English reading teaching plays a very important role in senior high school English teaching.The lead-in,as the beginning of a class,plays a very essential role in the success of a reading class.Although the lead-in only takes 3-5 minutes in a class,it lays a good foundation for the rest of the class.With the progress of science and the development of the times,MET(Modern Educational Technology)provides new vigor and vitality for English teaching.As a new means of education,MET assisted English reading classroom lead-in can greatly stimulate students’ interest in learning and strengthen the effect of classroom teaching.Based on the psychological "primacy effects",the affective filter hypothesis and the constructivist learning theory,this study was conducted in No.5 Middle School in Hengdong County,Hunan Province,with the purpose of investigating the application of lead-in assisted by MET in senior high school English reading class.The study mainly focuses on the following questions:(1)What are the lead-in methods assisted by MET commonly used in senior high school English reading class?(2)What effect does lead-in assisted by MET have on students in senior high school English reading class?(3)What difficulties do teachers have in lead-in assisted by MET in senior high school English reading class? In this study,classroom observations were conducted in six classes of No.5 Middle School in Hengdong County,20 English teachers and 206 students in the first grade were selected for questionnaires,and post-class interviews were conducted among six English teachers and eight students,respectively.The following conclusions were drawn from the statistics,analysis and discussion of the data.(1)MET-assisted lead-in is frequently used in senior high school English reading classes.Among the different MET-assisted lead-in methods,the commonly used methods include topic lead-in method,video lead-in method and music lead-in method.Apart from these methods,there are different MET-assisted lead-in methods.(2)On the whole,most students like the lead-in assisted by MET in senior high school English reading class.They believe that this kind of lead-in can stimulate their interest in learning and quickly enter the state of learning.Among the different methods of leadin assisted by MET,video and music lead-in method are most favored by students.(3)Teachers still have some difficulties in MET-assisted lead-in in reading class.First of all,some township senior high school English teachers lack the guidance of knowledge and skills about MET.Secondly,teachers lack the innovation of MET-assisted lead-in methods in reading classroom.Finally,teachers fail to achieve the fully desired teaching effect of MET-assisted lead-in in reading class.According to the findings of this study,this study proposes some pedagogical suggestions for MET-assisted lead-in in senior high school reading class.First of all,township English teachers should strengthen their self-study ability and promote the professional development of MET-assisted lead-in to reading classroom.Secondly,MET-assisted lead-in should be able to make students have emotional resonance.Finally,MET-assisted lead-in should be based on learners’ existing knowledge and build a bridge between previous and new knowledge. |
