Research On Latour’s Critique Of Modernity: From The Mode Of Existence To The Crisis Of Modernity

In 1993,Latour put forward the concept of modernity crisis for the first time in "We have never been Modern",that is,modern theory takes human beings as the center,enlarges human subjectivity infinitely,and there is a fixed thinking pattern of dichotomy between subject and object in cognitive ethics.this series of problems have led to people’s blind obedience to scientific rationality and the increasing separation of nature and society.To face such problems,Latour believes that the crisis can no longer be solved by the modern theory of the separation of human and nonhuman,culture and nature,because under the framework of modern theory,human beings are only related to the interaction of society and politics.it is only related to the naturally occurring interaction that can be contacted,while nature itself forms a huge and closed independent space.In fact,in all the process of practice,nature and culture have never been separated,so in the face of the wrong separation of modern theory,it is necessary for us to revisit modern theory and practice.In 2012,Latour responded to the crisis of modernity with a pluralistic ontology and a variety of modes of existence in his study of the Mode of being.The source of the divergence caused by modern theory is defined by Latour as the concept of "matter" in modern theory.He claims that the error of the concept of matter stems from the mixture of reference [REF] and reproduction [REP].At the same time,this error also stems from a wrong formalism.The misunderstanding of matter leads to the mixing of authenticity in the concept of matter and leads to the classification of all things other than matter as a kind of existence in the mind.Latour put forward the concept of existence mode in AIME.As another choice to understand the world,Latour can explain the existence of matter and non-matter.Starting from the study of the mode of existence,this paper reconstructs his argument for the criticism of modern theory according to the concept of four modes of existence put forward by Latour,and gives Latour’s latest answer to the crisis of modernity.At the same time,it makes a proper reflection on the mode of existence.
