In Inner Mongolia,English teachers generally adopt a traditional reading teaching method.They pay more attention to reading and translation in the classroom with learning new words and expressions being the most important task.Using this method students can only learn the language points in a passage,rather than the content and reading strategies.This results in many students losing the interest in English and having difficulties in reading.It is not conducive to the improvement of students’ English acquisition.In the late 20 th century,the guided-learning plan was created and developed in China.Through improving and developing teachers’ teaching plans,experts and scholars came up with the concept of the guided-learning plan.A teaching plan is designed and conceived from the perspective of a teacher,but a guided-learning plan is more like a learning process from the perspective of a student.This is a kind of teaching mode which takes the learning plan as the carrier,with teacher-guided learning as the method,and students’ independent learning as the main body.Teachers and students thus work together to complete the teaching task.Using this approach in reading classes can help students improve their reading abilities and attract their interest in English reading.Based on relevant literature and the experience of reading teaching,the author has carried out a practical study of reading teaching using a guided-learning plan in two classes.The author is aimed to research the following questions: 1)Whether the guided-learning plan can help students develop good reading habits and improve students’ reading abilities and interests.2)Whether the guided-learning plan can help students improve their English scores?3)What are the problems in the compilation of the guide plan and how to improve it?There are six chapters in the paper.The first chapter introduces the present situation of English reading teaching in Inner Mongolia and the purpose of this research.The second chapter is the literature review of the research status of guided-learning plan teaching in China and the theoretical basis of the research.Chapter three introduces the application of the guided-learning plan in English reading teaching.Chapter four is about research procedures for related experiments.In chapter five,the author analyses the data of the experiment.In chapter six,the author summarizes the conclusions and reflects on this study.Through this research,it can be concluded that guided-learning plan can indeed improve students’ interest and confidence in English reading,and help improve students’ reading ability and reading scores.There are still some problems to be solved in the research,and the author will continue to study and correct the deficiencies in future teaching practice.
