A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of An Introduction To Ethics In Robotics And AI (Chapters 2-4)

The report is the translation of Chapters 2 to 4 of An Introduction to Ethics in Robotics and AI,which was published by Springer Press.It is an information technology text.The selected text briefly introduces the concepts of artificial intelligence,machine learning,and ethical theories,and discusses how robots can apply these theories in different fields to enable artificial intelligence to make ethical decisions.Guided by the principle of faithfulness and smoothness,this translation project aims to provide a parallel text reference for readers concerned with robotics,artificial intelligence and its ethical applications,and provide a reference for translation strategies and practices of similar texts.The translation report is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the background and significance of this translation project,and it argues for the feasibility of the translation principle of faithfulness and smoothness in information technology texts.Then the translator provides an introduction to the main contents of the book,as well as a systematic analysis of stylistic features of the source text,and the following features are mainly summarized: 1)some subject words appear with high frequency,and their meanings are not easy to pinpoint at the lexical level;2)there are more uses of passive voice and attributive clauses in the source text at the syntactic level;3)the text is characterized by rigorous argumentation and logic.The third part describes the whole procedure of the translation project,such as pre-translation,the translation process and quality control.In the fourth part,based on the stylistic features of text and the principle of faithfulness and smoothness,the translator arranges and analyzes the typical cases from the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and text,and illustrates in detail the translation strategies used in the project,such as multi-translation words,conversion,combination,word-order adjustment,change of voice,textual cohesion and textual coherence,so as to improve the readability of the translation.The fifth part reviews and summarizes the gains and limitations of the entire translation project,and tries to provide a reference for the continued translation studies.
