An E-C Translation Report On How Cybersecurity Really Works (Chapters Nine To Ten)

With the development of science and technology,network is becoming more and more involved in the work and life of the public.Because of lack of knowledge about network security,a user can be easily attacked by hackers.Therefore,the translator chose Sam Grubb’s How Cybersecurity Really Works,published in April 2021,as the material for translation in the translation task.The book provides a systematic introduction to Internet security,such as how hackers and malicious software can attack users and steal personal information,and instructs the public on how to identify fraud traps and avoid online risks.In the process of translation,the translator first read through the whole text,made an initial translation with Deep L and X Translator,and then modified the unreasonable parts.The translator adopted various translation methods according to the features of the text.In terms of language style,the source text is scientific and interesting.There are a large number of technical terms in it,some of which have no corresponding Chinese counterparts.So the translator adopted the method of retaining the English terms with a brief explanation added.Besides,in order to get closer to the readers,the second personal pronoun is frequently used in the original text.However,the second personal pronoun is not frequently used in Chinese texts.In the process of translation,the translator omitted some personal pronouns in the original text according to the linguistic characteristics of Chinese,depending on the context.At the syntactic level,there are many interrogative headings,imperative sentences and parentheses in the source text.In translation,the translator adopted such methods as changing sentence patterns and positions,adjusting sentence structures and the logical relationship to conform to Chinese expression habits.In the whole translation process,the translator gained a lot of professional knowledge,improved translation proficiency and became aware of her limitations.To be a professional translator,one not only needs to acquire a lot of theoretical knowledge as a support,but also needs to enrich practical experiences to master translation skills.
