| Chinese character teaching represents a very important aspect in the field of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.For Romanian students,learning Chinese characters represents a difficult task,and starting to learn Chinese in college means a more significant challenge.Through short-term teaching assistant work and personal experience in Chinese language learning,the author found that primary and secondary school students have a more relaxed teaching schedule,fewer Chinese language courses,and relatively low requirements in Chinese language learning.On the contrary,college students have to take numerous Chinese classes every week with relatively high requirements,and the content of the teaching materials is much more complex.Hence,college students have to master much new knowledge in a short period.Although college students majoring in the Chinese language have many different courses,no courses are dedicated to teaching Chinese characters.Moreover,there is also a need for reference materials for teaching and learning Chinese characters.It can be said that Chinese character teaching remains a neglected corner in Romanian colleges.For this reason,the question of how to know Chinese characters well has become a significant difficulty for many college students.To identify Romanian college students’ problems in Chinese character learning,this paper explores various aspects of college students’ Chinese character learning process through a questionnaire survey.To further understand the current situation of Chinese character teaching,the author also interviewed Chinese teachers in Romania to better understand the student’s learning process from the teachers’ perspective.The questionnaire survey results show that Romanian college students have learning difficulties such as inappropriate Chinese character learning strategies,the negative transfer of the mother tongue,the neglect of Chinese character teaching in the classroom,and the students’ limited understanding of Chinese character culture.In addition,from the content of the interviews,it can be found that some of the reasons why Romanian college students cannot write Chinese characters well include the time allocated for the teaching of Chinese characters is very limited,the teachers cannot spend extra time to explain the meaning of Chinese characters in depth,and the learning of Chinese character culture and evolution is often stuck at a superficial level.To achieve better results in Chinese character learning,this paper recommends that college students first try to understand the structure and meaning of the characters rather than learning mechanically by copying them numerous times.In addition,in order to improve the effectiveness of Chinese character teaching,this paper designed Chinese character teaching content for reference,according to the course types set by Romanian universities for students majoring in the Chinese language. |
