| As an informational text,maritime safety reference book is characterized by such special text features as headers in bold type,and tables,diagrams,graphs and charts to allow the reader to easily find key information and understand the main topic.Complex sentences are another feature to make sure definition and meanings are conveyed in an accurate way.In the process of Chinese translation,how to ensure the clarity and accuracy to facilitate the reader’s understanding is of vital importance.The translation text is taken from a reference book entitled Maritime Transportation Safety Management and Risk Analysis.The SL text expertly addresses the issues of maritime safety and introduces the tools now available.With the objective of avoiding ambiguity in the translation process to ensure clarity and accuracy,this practice report is intended to explore the effectiveness and feasibility of different translation strategies of structure reorganization in translating complex sentences in SL.Based on the analysis of selected text,the difficulties and problems in the process of translating complex sentences are classified into three categories,and the report summarizes the typical examples in translation and concludes 6 translation strategies of structure reorganization.Translation problems concerning complicated sentence structure can be resolved by reconstructing of word order and fronting restructuring;Translation problems concerning obscure logic relations can be resolved by cohesion reconstructing and manifestation reconstructing;Translation problems concerning multiple and complicated modifiers can be resolved by splitting-off reconstructing and restoration restructuring.Case analysis and summary of translation practice show that structure reorganization has guiding and practical significance in the translation of complex sentences in maritime safety reference books in that the strategies adopted are effective in enhancing the translation quality and translator’s ability. |
