This thesis is a report on a translation work of Swedish Cultural Monuments Act under the guidance of Newmark’ s text typology. The Act is a legal document that includes the categories, protection and transformation of ancient monuments in Sweden. It was found that the large number of conditional sentences and structures in the Act,increase the difficulty of comprehension and English to Chinese translation. Therefore, this report mainly focuses on the translation approach of conditional sentences. In legal English, conditional sentences can be classified into explicit conditionals and implicit conditionals, depending on the existence or absence of markers.Based on this classification, this report mainly studies the translation of explicit conditionals and implicit conditionals and summaries four kinds of translation approaches, namely, direct translation of explicit conditions into explicit conditions;direct translation of implicit conditions into implicit conditions;indirect translation of explicit conditions into implicit conditions;indirect translation of implicit conditions into explicit conditions and adjust word order. This report is composed of five parts. The first part is the description of translation mission. The second part is the introduction of the translation process. The third part is literature review. The forth part is case study,in which the author puts forward several translation approaches with specific analysis. And the fifth part is the summary and enlightenment. The result of this report might provide useful references for translation of legal texts.
