This is a report on translation project. The source language of translation material is excerpted from the book Rascals in Paradise co-authored by James A.Michener and Arthur Grove Day,describing ten fascinating stories of adventurers on the South Sea.First,in order to familiarize readers with the culture of target language, the author chose Hans J.Vermeer’s Skopos Theory as the guiding theory for the translation practice. The theory points out three translation principles, namely the Skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule.Vermeer believes that,in general, the purpose of translation determines the method and strategy of translation. An important point is that no source text has only one correct or desirable translation.Skopos theory not only emphasizes the acceptance of the target language culture, but also the dissemination of the source language culture. Therefore, before proceeding with the translation activity, the author needs to understand the social and cultural background of Rascals in Paradise. In addition, the fidelity rule focuses on the inter-lingual coherence between the source language and the target language, that is,the target language should be faithful to the source language. Therefore, when translating the original text, the author should maintain inter-lingual coherence and keep the style of the original text. This paper consists of four parts. The first chapter is a brief introduction,in which the author first introduced the source of the project, then briefly introduced the author of the original text and the content of the original text and stated the significance of this translation practice project, and finally introduced the structure of the translation practice report. The second chapter is the task description, the content of which includes pre-translation preparation, translation process and post-translation revision. The third chapter is about case analyses, which mainly discusses the difficulties encountered by the author in the translation process and some problems to be solved. In order to accurately convey the semantics of the original text to readers, the author used translation methods such as the methods of adding, adjustment of word order, and splitting. The fourth chapter is the summary of the translation project,in which the author summarized some translation inspirations and lessons as well as some limitations of the translation practice report.
