| Since the introduction of Western learning into China at the end of the Ming Dynasty, scholars from different classes, identities, and regions in China have had different reactions to Western learning.Wu and Anhui scholars,as the main force of academics in the Qing Dynasty, also integrated Western learning into traditional Chinese learning. In the study of classics, the scholars of the two schools have completely different attitudes towards Western learning due to their different academic purposes and academic experiences. To explore the difference between the two schools of scholars’ Western learning thoughts,we must first analyze the origin of the scholars’ Western learning thoughts and the social background faced by the Qianjia scholars. After Western learning was introduced into China, there were comprehensive acceptance, comprehensive rejection, and critical attitudes towards Western learning.Three different attitudes were absorbed, and in the process of critical absorption,Xu Guangqi and others formed the idea of "similarity between China and the West".The thought of "Western learning in the middle" which was "established" by Emperor Kangxi, these are the theoretical basis of the Western learning thought of the two schools of scholars;in the social background, the two schools of scholars lived in the stagnation of the introduction of Western learning, the completion of the integration of Chinese and Western learning,"Western learning in China" The period when the "source" became the king’s position, these influenced the choice of scholars of both schools. In the specific practice of absorbing Western learning, scholars from both schools accepted the concepts of astronomy, geography, and mathematics introduced from the West, and actively applied them to their own research on classics and history. In the aspect of connecting China and the West, the scholars of the Anhui School inherited the idea of "Chinese and Western similarities" by Xu Guangqi and others, advocated absorbing the advantages of Western law, being able to treat China and the West equally, and affirming the merits of Westerners in teaching the Fa.The main focus is to introduce Western knowledge, and to a certain extent,it can surpass the Western theory;the Wu school scholars mostly advocate the theory of "the source of Western learning".In his works,Western methods were used to excavate ancient Chinese methods, which played an important role in the revival of ancient Chinese astronomy, mathematics and other works.Compared with the Wu School, the scholars of the Anhui School of Western learning are more enlightened, and their specific achievements are also better. However, neither of the scholars of the two schools escaped from the framework of Confucianism. In specific practice, little research was done on the theory of Western knowledge,so it failed to bring about the transformation of Chinese scientific society. |
