| This study aims to understand the current situation of adverse experiences, meaning in life, and cyberbullying among college students and their relationships, test the intermediary role of meaning in life in the relationship between children’s adverse experiences and cyberbullying, and explore the internal mechanism between adverse childhood experiences and college students’ cyberbullying to provide an empirical basis for the prevention and intervention of college students’ cyberbullying. In the first study, the "Childhood Trauma Questionnaire","Life Meaning Scale(the Meaning in Life Questionnaire)" and "Cyberbullying Questionnaire" were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on a total of 1394 college students from two higher vocational colleges in Shaoyang City to explore the current situation and relationship between children’s adverse experiences, meaning in life, and cyberbullying.By using SPSS statistical software to analyze and process the data, the results of demography variable showed that:(1)All dimensions of childhood trauma, meaning in life, and cyberbullying differed significantly by gender among college students.Among them, male students scored higher than female students on all dimensions of childhood trauma experiences and cyberbullying, while female students scored higher than male students on all dimensions of sense of meaning in life.(2)All dimensions of childhood trauma, meaning in life, and cyberbullying among college students differed significantly on whether they were only children.Among them, only children scored higher than non-only children on all dimensions of childhood trauma experience and cyberbullying, while non-only children scored higher than only children on all dimensions of meaning in life.(3)The dimensions of childhood trauma, meaning of life, and cyberbullying of college students are significantly different in whether their parents are divorced or not.Among them, the scores of children with divorced parents were higher than those of non-divorced parents in terms of traumatic experience and cyberbullying behavior, and the scores of meaning in life of college students with non-divorced parents are higher than those of parents who are divorced.(4)The dimensions of college students’ childhood trauma, meaning of life, and cyberbullying vary greatly in terms of family structure. The nuclear family scored lower than other family structures in various dimensions of childhood trauma and cyberbullying, and higher than other family structures in terms of meaning in life. The results of correlation analysis showed that:(5)The dimensions of trauma are significantly negatively correlated with those of meaning in life.(6)The dimensions of trauma are significantly positively correlated with those of cyberbullying.(7)The dimensions of meaning in life are significantly negatively correlated with those of cyberbullying. The results of mediating effect showed that:(8)The meaning in life plays a significant intermediary role between adverse experiences and cyberbullying, and a partially intermediary role in the impact of traumatic experiences on cyberbullying.(Meaning of life mediated significantly between college children’s adverse experiences and cyberbullying, and partially mediated the effect of traumatic experiences on cyberbullying behavior).Based on the mechanism of action among the three variables that have been confirmed in Study1,the second study adopts an equal-group experimental design with pre-and post-test in the experimental group and the control group and intervenes in meaning in life by watching videos about life. The results of the study showed that:(1)Before the experiment, there were no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in the dimensions of meaning in life and cyberbullying behavior, which indicated that the subjects in the experimental group and the control group were homogeneous.(2)After the intervention of the experimental group, the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group were significantly different in meaning of life, cyberbullying, direct cyberbullying, and the search for meaning. There was no significant difference in the presence of meaning and indirect cyberbullying. In terms of the level of meaning in life, the scores of the post-test are higher than those of the pre-test.On the level of cyberbullying, the scores of cyberbullying and direct cyberbullying are lower than those of the pre-test.(3)Before and after the experiment, except for the dimension of the search for meaning, there was no significant difference in the other dimensions of meaning in life and cyberbullying in the control group. The conclusions:(1)All dimensions of childhood trauma, meaning in life, and cyberbullying differed significantly by gender, whether they were only children and family structure among college students.(2)The dimensions of trauma are significantly negatively correlated with those of meaning in life.(3)Childhood adverse experiences can effectively and positively predict cyberbullying.(4)The dimensions of meaning in life are significantly negatively correlated with those of cyberbullying.(5)The intermediary role of meaning in life on the relationship between adverse experiences and cyberbullying among college students is significant and partially(Meaning of life mediates significantly but also partially in the relationship between childhood adverse experiences and cyberbullying among college students).(6)Life movie viewing reflection counseling method(reflection counseling method based on watching movies or documentaries about life)can improve college students’ meaning of life and reduce their cyberbullying level. |
