Literary translation is a cross-cultural recreation of a literary work by the translator.Target readers’ reception of the translation is an important issue in literary translation.Reception aesthetics theory emphasizes that literary works should put reader at the center place,consider the receptive abilities and characteristics of the readers,and focus on the reader’s horizon of expectation.It provides significant perspectives in literary translation.This report is based on the translation practice of the English children’s story The Thieving Summer.Firstly,it explains the characteristics of source text and concludes the features of the source text;Secondly,it introduces the reception aesthetics theory and three principles reader-centered position,horizon of expectation and blank of text to guide the translation of children’s literature.Finally,it presents the typical examples of this translation practice in which the key principles of reception aesthetics theory were applied the key principles of reception aesthetics theory to solve problems.Specifically speaking,at the lexical level,the translation techniques include the use of onomatopoeia,the use of reduplicated words and four-character phrases;at the syntactic level,splitting long sentence,adding rhetoric and explicating the syntactic meaning can help solving the translation difficulties.This report attempts to summarize reasonable translation methods through the research on the translation practice from the perspective of children,and provide necessary reference and inspiration for the translation of children’s story in the future.
