An MTPE Translation Report On The Environment-related News In The Times

Artificial intelligence,big data,and other technologies have been interwoven into all facets of human industry and living since the turn of the twenty-first century,demonstrating the tremendous rise of science and technology.Riding this wave,machine translation has developed quickly and is now a vital auxiliary tool in the translation business,boasting a broader application space and a more potent translation capability.The trend of human-computer cooperation in the translation sector is becoming more and more evident,even though machine translation alone is still not on par with human translation.This study adopts the practical method of “machine translation and post-editing(MTPE)”,chooses the environment-related news in the “climate change” column in The Times as the research object,and analyzes the errors in the translation of the MT engine by case analysis from lexical,syntactical,and discoursal levels in order to give suggestions for improving the effectiveness of human-computer cooperation.By doing this,the author hopes to raise the standard of MT translation and identify where human and computer cooperation converges.The author divides all MT errors,including mistranslation,translationese,and format errors,into three categories based on the case analysis.The quality of translation is raised by using PE.Additionally,the author has discovered through this practice that although MT output contains errors,it does aid human translators in increasing translation efficiency.Additionally,by going through the entire MTPE process,the author is able to examine the issues and potential solutions for the human-computer cooperative translation project.As a result,the author can build a foundation for developing into an experienced translator by adjusting to the trend of human-computer interaction in the new era.
