| In order to promote the professional development of secondary school teachers and build a high-quality secondary school teaching force,the Professional Standards for Secondary School Teachers(for Trial Implementation)was developed in accordance with the Teachers’ Law of the People’s Republic of China and the Compulsory Education Law of the People’s Republic of China.The document states that senior secondary school teachers should "effectively regulate the teaching process,stimulate independent thinking and active inquiry among secondary school students,develop students’ creative abilities,establish good teacher-student relationships,and help secondary school students to establish good peer relationships." The effective regulation of the teaching process mentioned there is to some extent related to body language.A rich body language may help teachers to establish a good teacher-student relationship and improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning in the classroom.For high school English teachers,the appropriate use of body language can both improve their own professionalism and facilitate students’ mastery of English.The aim of this project is to explore the use of female high school English teachers in the classroom and to provide feasible suggestions for teachers’ professionalism.Based on the theory of implication teaching and the theory of expectation violation,this study used a combination of literature,observation and interview methods.On the basis of reading a large amount of literature,the questionnaire form,observation form and interview outline were compiled with reference to the opinions of experts and scholars and practical experience on the use of body language by female high school English teachers.The questionnaire survey was conducted on 60 teachers and 120 students in four dimensions:head gestures,facial gestures,hand gestures and eye gestures.30 classrooms were randomly observed and 10 teachers and 10 students were interviewed,with the aim of studying the current situation of the use of body language by female high school English teachers in classroom teaching and proposing considerations for the use of body language by English teachers in the classroom.This paper focuses on three questions:(1)What are the perceptions of female teachers and students about body language?(2)What is the current situation of the use of English teachers’ body language in the classroom?(3)How can we improve the use of female English teachers’ body language in the classroom to optimize the effectiveness of classroom teaching?The findings show that:(1)female senior secondary English teachers’ knowledge of classroom body language is not comprehensive;(2)female senior secondary English teachers’ use of classroom gestures is not standardized;(3)female senior secondary English teachers’ use of classroom body language is too casual;(4)female senior secondary English teachers’ use of classroom body language is monotonous.Based on the exploration of teachers’ body language,combined with the findings and problems found in this study,the article puts forward the following countermeasures and suggestions.At the teacher level:(1)strengthen the theoretical study of female senior secondary English teachers’ classroom body language;(2)strengthen the style change of female senior secondary English teachers’ classroom body language;(3)strengthen female senior secondary English teachers’ attention to students’ classroom performance.At the social level:(1)attaching importance to the cultivation of teachers’ educational and teaching skills in teacher training colleges;(2)improving the training mechanism for teachers’ professionalism. |
