Soviet violist Borisovsky has adapted Prokofiev’s ballet for viola and piano based on Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet”.The beautiful melodies, rich viola expressiveness and great artistry make it popular among violists. This thesis takes four pieces from the viola and piano version— "Introduction","The Street Awakens","Dance of the Knights" and "Mercutio" —as examples, combing their historical background and my own performance experience, analyzing them in detail, hoping to help and inspire the performers during the process of the second creation.
