The vocal suite "western Yunnan poetry notes"(Op.22)is an art song suite composed by the famous Chinese composer Mr.Ding Shande in 1984.The lyrics are taken from a poem written by Dai Honglin during his travels in Yunnan. The composer boldly combines Chinese folk tunes with modern compositional techniques and gives the piano part a more expressive function of image building and mood setting. The combination of piano and voice not only creatively reproduces the artistic images and spiritual connotations of the poetic texts, but also reflects the Chinese academic composer’s unique understanding of the art song suite,a musical form originating from the European Romantic period. This paper examines the collaborative text of Ding Shande’s vocal suite, western Yunnan poetry notes. It consists of three parts: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion, and the body is divided into three chapters. The first chapter summarizes and reviews the background and characteristics of the composition of the vocal suite "western Yunnan poetry notes" through the combing of Mr.Ding Shande’s study experience and the creation of art songs. In the second chapter, the musical elements such as harmony, rhythm and tonality are used as the entry point to further explore and explain the musical composition techniques and the connotation of the musical image. The third chapter is based on the image revealing and music analysis in the previous chapter, and discusses the embodiment and application of the piano collaboration technique in the three different stages of the suite.
