As an important desk work for scriptwriters to create scripts,character biography is the common foundation of characters,plots and lines.The three elements take root and sprout on the basis of character biography,and grow into distinctive characters,reasonable plots and appropriate lines.It is the characters,plots,lines have the common foundation of character biography,on the basis of character biography integration,constitute a coherent story.This paper combined with the finished screenplay "About Time",centered on the research objective of "the importance of character biography to scriptwriter creation",and on the basis of studying and summarizing the theoretical research and excellent practice at home and abroad,comprehensively applied the literature research method,expert consultation method,classic film script analysis method and script writing practice method.From theory,example and practice,this paper systematically studies the specific functions of character biography on character shaping,plot promotion and line creation.Among them,the first chapter of this paper discusses the importance of character biography to characterization,including the role of establishing the appearance of characters,innovating types of characters and shaping multi-dimensional characters.The second chapter discusses the influence of the character biography on the plot,including the role of the character biography in constructing the motive of the character behavior,deciding the turning point of the story plot and laying the foundation of the character arc.The third chapter discusses the orientation of the character biography to the lines,including the role of the character biography in sorting out the inner voice of the character,determining the style of the character’s lines,mapping the character’s subtext.
