The Study On Image Metaphor Of Friedrich Einhoff’s Paintings

Initially,metaphor theory has always been classified as a rhetorical field of study,and our understanding of "metaphor" was usually associated with literary categories.However,with the refinement of sub-disciplines,since the 20 th century,experts and scholars have gradually applied metaphor theory as an independent theoretical system in poetics,philosophy,linguistics,art,etc.,showing a multidisciplinary and multimodal research character.As an image carrier bearing the artist’s concept and the imprint of the times,painting has a close relationship with the times,and the inspiration of the artist in his painting creation is either emotional or subjective expression,and the expression of painting has become more and more inclusive.In particular,the artistic concepts presented in the pictures of expressionist artists are trying to get rid of the shackles of reason to emphasize the subjective feelings of the artists,which leads to the exaggeration,deformation and even grotesque treatment of objective forms,which is very thought-provoking.In those images which are based on the choice of reality objects but presented in an unusual grotesque way,they are very tense and attractive.Through the process of cognizing the background of the artist’s life,the effect of the image,the perspective and method of creation,and the central concern,the traces of the image and the link of existence become tangible when we enter the artist’s image world.At this time,the means of metaphor assumes a necessary means of social function in each artist’s work,fascinating us as viewers in the context of the image.This article will discuss the constitutive elements of image metaphors in the paintings of Friedrich Einhoff(1936-2018),famous German contemporary expressionist,in a context of relevant history,and conduct an in-depth analysis and study.The content of the thesis is divided into four parts: an overview of metaphors and image metaphors;the formation and development of image metaphors in Einhoff ’s paintings;the presentation of image metaphor in Einhoff’s paintings and an exploration of the deeper meaning of his works.It mainly uses Einhoff’s specific case works to analyze and study the metaphors existing in different pictorial image effects,and is committed to exploring the positive meaning,cognition,aesthetic function and influence of image metaphors as expressionist painting language.In the first part,this paper begins with the relevant theory and iconographic research methods of metaphor,exploring the reasons for its emergence and development and changes,and elaborating the basic characteristics of metaphor in painting.The second part,it traces the background of the image metaphors in Einhoff’s work and discusses its uniqueness in conjunction with the work.The third part is the focus of the paper,which will choose to elaborate the metaphorical phenomena presented in Einhoff’s paintings;mainly through the alienation of the object form,the structure of the grotesque space,the implicit color scheme,and the special layout of the dots and lines,to deeply analyze the Einhoff’s inner world and the structure of the real world in the image,and to analyze the relationship between the presentation of the external world and the image metaphor brought about by the atmosphere of "repression,depression and isolation" created in the picture.The fourth part will combine Einhoff’s historical situation to summarize the various metaphorical cognitions in the painting about the projection of group portraits of social eras and the sublimation of self-feelings,and to analyze the visual effects and enlightenment of his artistic techniques with actual works.Through the in-depth analysis of this topic,the multi-level application of metaphorical techniques in painting is learnt,and that the image metaphor in painting as a way of expression with profound value has an important role that cannot be ignored in the formation of the artist’s image creation thinking is explored and analyzed.The specific functions of painting in the creation of images and abstract reasoning through the metaphorical expression of various image elements is deeply aware of.Through this discussion,it can provide an appropriate microscopic angle and technique reference for our future painting art creation,and inspire us to explore more new creative opportunities in the open,inclusive and diversified era of reading pictures.
