English writing is an important form of language output and an important embodiment of English learners’ comprehensive language ability.General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(2017:107)proposes that continuation writing will be one of the main forms of writing test.The new question type of continuation writing further tests students’ ability of textual output based on the text understanding.However,teachers are faced with a good number of challenges in the practice of continuation writing teaching,for example,many students have a weak foundation in English writing which has resulted in a lack of interest in continuation writing,and low classroom participation and so on.Therefore,Project-based Learning(PBL)method which is student-centered has received more and more attention in order to solve the problems in continuation writing teaching.The PBL method is driven by project questions to stimulate students’ curiosity,guide students to think actively,raise questions,explore independently by students’ cooperative learning under the teacher’s guidance.The transformation of students from receptive learning to formative learning in exploration has greatly mobilized students’ enthusiasm and initiative,which is conducive to improving students’ comprehensive ability and innovative ability of problem-solving.Therefore,the thesis attempts to integrate the PBL method into the continuation writing teaching and tries to solve the following two research questions: 1.What are the effects of the PBL method on senior high school students’ writing ability in continuation writing? 2.What are the effects of the PBL method on senior high school students’ attitude towards continuation writing?Based on the research questions,a two-round action research within 12 weeks was conducted on 40 students from senior three of a high school in Shenyang by using questionnaires,interviews,and tests as instruments to collect data.After two rounds of action research,the researcher uses SPSS 21.0 to analyze the collected data,and combines with the interview results to draw the following conclusions.First,the PBL method has a positive impact on students’ continuation writing from three aspects of content,structure and language,and it can improve students’ writing ability.Second,the PBL method can improve students’ interest in continuation writing and help students develop a good writing habit,which makes a positive change in students’ attitude towards continuation writing.
