As an important input skill,English reading accounts for a large proportion of students’ daily English learning and plays a vital role in the development of students’ comprehensive English ability.The teachers’ traditional teaching philosophy has not fundamentally changed,and there are still problems of simplification,fragmentation and shallowness in English reading teaching.The current situation of reading teaching deviates from the requirements of the new curriculum standards,and it is difficult to help students improve their ability to use comprehensive language.The unit integrated instruction based on the activity-based learning approach aims to implement progressive teaching activities guided by the theme and rely on different types of discourse,which has a great guiding effect on the cultivation of students’ English reading ability.On this basis,the unit integrated instruction based on the activity-based learning approach is applied to the teaching of reading,in order to solve the following problems: 1.What are the effects of unit integrated instruction based on the activity-based learning approach on students’ attitudes for reading? 2.What are the effects of unit integrated instruction based on the activity-based learning approach on students’ accuracy in reading comprehension? The study was conducted from 1st September to 30 th November in 2022 in a high school in Liaoning Province,involved40 students from a class in the first Grade in a senior high school.The researcher conducted two rounds of action research on students through questionnaires,interviews,classroom observations,and tests for a period of 3 months.After the first round of teaching,through the analysis of students’ performance and data to understand the shortcomings of this round of teaching,the second round of action research was carried out after adjusting the plan.Finally,SPSS 26.0 is used to analyze the research data.After analyzing the data,the researcher concluded that the unit integrated instruction based on the activity-based learning approach can improve students’ interest in reading and make them more positive about English reading.It can effectively improve the accuracy of students’ English reading comprehension.
