Small ethnic instrumental music combination occupies a very important position in the instrumental music performance form of our country.Small ethnic instrumental music combination has brought into play the unique artistic charm of ethnic instrumental music to a great extent.With its simple expression form,flexible combination way,diversified performance form and close to the masses’ performance style,it has been popular with more and more people in contemporary society.At the same time,as an important part of traditional Chinese music,small national instrumental music group attaches great importance to the pursuit of musical instrument timbre,especially for the diversity of works content and the shaping of music audibility.This paper takes the spatial and temporal development of Chinese small instrumental music groups as the research route,forms a macro study of Chinese national instrumental music ensemble art,and combs the development process of small national instrumental music groups in the longitudinal time line in the form of ancient,modern and contemporary series.Horizontally,by grasping the artistic characteristics of small national instrumental music groups in different historical periods,the paper discusses the spreading characteristics,development prospects and existing problems presented in the development status of Chinese national instrumental music groups.This paper combines personal learning experience of erhu with the rehearsal experience of ethnic chamber music and ethnic orchestra,on the basis of academic pre-history research,adds the reflection of contemporary ethnic instrumental group players from the perspective of personal practice,and puts forward the problems and suggestions on the creation,playing techniques,education and teaching in the current development status.In order to provide relevant reference for the research in this direction.The author believes that,on the one hand,small national instrumental music itself should dig deep into the rich essence of Chinese music culture,weigh the advantages and disadvantages between innovation and inheritance,constantly absorb the predecessors’ playing skills,enrich the playing forms of small national instrumental music,and promote the diversification of its styles.On the other hand,the music theory circle should pay more attention to the development of small ethnic instrumental music combination.Only with the support of theory and creation,can this form of ethnic instrumental music better meet the musical cultural needs of contemporary people in the future road,and on the basis of not losing its own style and quality,truly achieve a long-term development.
