Sima Qian’s "Shiji" of the Western Han Dynasty is the first general history of China, which not only records history and biographies of characters, but also writes a large number of disasters, creating a precedent for recording disasters in China’s ancient history. This paper takes the phenomena written in the Shiji as the research object and starting point, and conducts research on the five aspects of the catastrophe, the cause of writing, the ideological connotation, the artistic characteristics and the influence of later generations,in order to make a modest contribution to the research on the catastrophe in the academic circles. The first part comprehensively sorts out the catastrophic phenomena contained in the "History",classifies them according to the different properties of disasters, divides them into three categories: natural disasters, astronomical visions and divine phenomena, and combines them with the context of the time to make a comprehensive interpretation and interpretation of them. The second part mainly discusses the causes of the writing of disasters in the Shiji from three levels: the influence of the circumstances of the times, the contamination of the idea of disasters, and the driving force of subjective factors. The third part explores the ideological connotation of the writing of disasters in the Shiji,Sima Qian mainly inherits Confucius’ s idea of reverence for the mandate of heaven and pays attention to personnel, promotes the improvement of Dong Zhongshu’s idea of disasters, and highlights the words of Sima’s family, and explains the origin, time, sequence and final purpose of disasters in the Shiji. The fourth part discusses the artistic characteristics of the catastrophic writing of the "Shiji",mainly from three aspects: the heavy proportion of lyricism, the narrative mode, and the rich content of quotations. The fifth part explains the influence of the Shiji on the Book of Han and the Six Dynasties. In summary, through the analysis and exploration of the disaster writing of the Shiji, this paper can not only deepen the understanding of Sima Qian’s thinking on the disaster writing of the Western Han Dynasty, but also explore the unique artistic charm of the disaster writing in the Shiji, and also help to understand Sima Qian’s concept of disaster and its unique value in the era.
