The Formation And Development Of The Concept Of "SHUXUE" During The Republic Of China

SHUXUE(书学)of the Republic of China was in a special historical period when Western learning was spreading eastward.Under the influence of Western learning and the academic transformation of the Republic of China,the study of SHUXUE established the modern academic ideal.The establishment of modern academic concepts indicates that SHUXUE gradually takes on the form of a discipline,which puts forward urgent requirements for the interpretation of the concept of SHUXUE and the delineation of the scope of SHUXUE research.The concept of SHUXUE has a deep historical origin and was widely used in the early period of the Republic of China.Especially after the establishment of the China SHUXUE Research Society and the publication of its journal"SHUXUE",the concept of SHUXUE was widely recognized.The general application of scientific method in the study of SHUXUE and the establishment of the concept of separation of"calligraphy"and"calligraphy theory"directly provided the basis for the interpretation of the concept of SHUXUE.The traditional concept of SHUXUE has experienced a process of continuous development and evolution,forming a concept system with wide meaning,while the concept of SHUXUE in the Republic of China has a clear definition.From the traditional point of view,the concept of SHUXUE in the Republic of China has distinct modern characteristics.Meanwhile,SHUXUE has also got rid of the traditional mode of relying on philology and XIAOXUE(小学),and gradually developed into an independent subject.In addition,many new subdisciplines emerged in the study of SHUXUE in the Republic of China,which expanded the extension of the concept of SHUXUE and constituted a new concept system of SHUXUE.These subdisciplines directly provided the basis for the discipline construction of Calligraphy in the 1980s and 1990s,but there was a tendency in the discipline construction of Calligraphy during this period to pay too much attention to the subject setting and knowledge structure of Calligraphy and ignore the cultural attribute and humanistic spirit of traditional SHUXUE.The artistic standpoint of the study of SHUXUE in the Republic of China provides an effective way for the communication between Calligraphy and Chinese traditional cultural spirit and has certain enlightenment significance for the discipline construction of contemporary Calligraphy.
