A Report On E-C Translation Of Racial History Black And White Australians(Chapters 16-19)

As China and Australia draw closer together,it becomes increasingly imperative to delve into Australian history in order to foster mutual understanding between the two nations.Margaret Ann Franklin’s work,Black and White Australians,provides a comprehensive look into Australia’s complex and tumultuous colonial history,which was published in Heinemann Education Press in 1976 and no public Chinese translation has been found so far.It serves as a valuable historical source in the study of Australia’s colonial development.The text of this translation report is excerpted from chapters 16 to 19 of Black and White Australians and contains a total of 13,118 words which tells the story of the discrimination faced by the Indigenous Australians in various aspects such as social welfare,medical care,and education,despite government intervention in some areas.The Indigenous workers rise up in strike to defend their legal rights.This research is in non-literary translation and the original text is an informative piece,characterized by its logical structure and emphasis on the authenticity and readability of the content.The translated material contains many words and phrases specific to the Australian cultural context,as well as lengthy and complex sentences,making the translation task challenging.In the translation process,the translator adopted communicative and semantic translation theories and employed flexible and varied translation strategies at the vocabulary,sentence,and cultural levels.Through this translation exercise,the translator has improved translation skills and gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of non-literary translation.It is hoped that this translation will make a valuable contribution to the existing body of materials on the history of race in Australia.
