| "The expression of the window represents the painter’s perception of society and life and his emotions, both in literature and in painting. In Edward Hopper’s paintings, windows and light are the main constituent elements of the picture, whether it is a strong portrayal of a person or an empty scene, and through the study of Hopper’s work it is possible to systematically study the application of ’windows’ in painting. The thesis is divided into five main sections, the first of which is the introduction, which explains the reasons for the selection of the topic, the current state of research, and the aims and innovations of the study.Secondly,it analyses the causes of Hopper’s artistic style in relation to his artistic upbringing and the social context of the time. The next part of the thesis focuses on the use of the "window" element in Hopper’s paintings, which first appears as a compositional element in the paintings. The geometric form of the window itself, the logic of the overall composition and the role of the artistic dimension are analyzed in the spatial dimension, and the role of the ’window’ as a realistic component in the painting is further explored,as is the role of colour and light in the core expression of the painting. Finally,as painting is a spiritual act of creation, all elements of painting are necessarily conceptual, and I will analyse how the element of the ’window’ rises to the role of conceptual expression and in what form it is expressed. The fifth part of the thesis will analyse the influence of Edward Hopper’s artistic ideas on modern art and myself. The thesis will conclude with an overview of Hopper’s use of the ’window’ element for the purpose of application. |
