In recent years, the rapid development of artificial intelligence has brought many conveniences to human life and social development, but at the same time,it has also brought many potential risks and challenges.Against this backdrop, the first two chapters of Perspectives on Digital Humanism were selected as translation material for translation practice. The selected chapters focus on the interactions and complex contradictions between humans and technology in the digital age, calling for the development of technology to be human-centered and providing a direction for the next step in the study of digital humanism.According to the text typology of Katharina Reiss, the book Perspectives on Digital Humanism,as an academic text,is an informative text, attaching importance to conveying information and requiring a high quality of linguistic accuracy.Although the principle of “fidelity” is the primary consideration when translating informative texts, readability should not be neglected in the translation process as well.Catford’s translation shifts theory attaches great importance to semantic equivalence. He categorizes translation shifts into level shifts and category shifts, among which category shifts are further divided into structure shifts, class shifts, unit shifts, and intra-system shifts, all of which have guiding significance to enhance the accuracy, scientificity, and readability of target language. Therefore,on the basis of analyzing the characteristics of the source text and the linguistic differences between English and Chinese, this report aims to use different translation shifts methods to solve the problems encountered in translation practice from a linguistic perspective, thereby improving the quality of expressions and enhancing my translation ability,as well as accumulating specialized terms in digital humanities to boost my humanistic literacy and amass experience for future translation projects in related fields.
