Shaping and disseminating a country’s image is an important proposition in international communication,and video communication is an important means to solve the proposition.Documentaries,with their authenticity and credibility,can effectively help people better understand and recognize the country’s image.As the Internet enters the audio-visual era,Some self-media documentaries have played a unique and increasingly indispensable role in breaking prejudice and promoting cross-cultural communication.In recent years,anti-epidemic documentaries have taken the epidemic period as the background and the group portraits of people who have experienced the epidemic as the main object.They have presented the real anti-epidemic situation to the audience from an objective and calm perspective,thereby triggering social thinking and playing a practical role in shaping and disseminating the national image.Among them,Japanese documentary director Ryo Takeuchi provided a unique international perspective,observed and recorded the story of Chinese fight against the epidemic,and successfully went out of the circle.His series of related themes have also made outstanding contributions to the presentation of China’s national image.This article takes Ryo Takeuchi’s series of representative anti-epidemic-themed documentaries as the research object,from the perspective of narratology,analyzes the image and characteristics of China presented in his works,and tries to explore on the theoretical and practical level.First of all,sort out the presentation of the country’s image by current documentaries and the research of anti-epidemic documentaries,then establish a narrative research model by defining relevant concepts,and select four aspects of narrative level,narrative structure,narrative perspective and narrative language to deconstruct Takeuchi Ryo’s anti-epidemic documentaries,so as to deeply understand the meaning expression of the documentary.Finally,by analyzing the image of China in the film and its shaping strategy,it extracts the essence and puts forward suggestions on the grasp of its presentation dimension,the director’s personal communication advantages,narrative techniques,communication effects and value reflection,etc.Summarize from the aspects of being good at leveraging the power of others,emphasizing personal value,developing communication channels,and enriching narrative methods.It is expected to provide new ideas for the future development of the presentation and communication of my country’s national image,and provide new thinking for the optimization of my country’s documentary industry or the way to deal with international public crises,or provide a new perspective for us media practitioners or ordinary people to observe the life we are accustomed to.
