The Fusion Of Eastern And Western Traditional Painting In Lang Shining’s "Three Goats Bring In Good Fortune" And Its Influence On The Author’s Creation

In the 18 th century,Giuseppe Castiglione,a missionary,came to China and served the ruling class during the reigns of Kangxi,Yongzheng,and Qianlong,creating many paintings.His painting style exhibited a fusion of Chinese and Western elements,innovatively influenced by the aesthetics of the emperors.His use of Western techniques,accurate forms and structures,strong realism,and bold use of color were highly sought after in the Qing court,making him an indispensable important painter in the study of Qing dynasty art.This article aims to explore relevant issues from the perspective of a painting practitioner,taking Castiglione’s painting "Three Sheep Bring Prosperity" as the research object,and discussing the characteristics of his painting style from the perspective of Chinese-Western fusion,hoping to gain insights from it.The article will be divided into five parts for discussion.In the first part,the introduction,the research significance of this topic is introduced,the research background and purpose are explained,and relevant issues are explored.At the same time,the research status quo at home and abroad is reviewed,and the research results and methods of predecessors are introduced.Additionally,the article clarifies the innovation and significance of this study.In the second part,Castiglione’s life experience is investigated,and the changes in his painting style after entering China are analyzed.In the third part,the Chinese-Western fusion characteristics reflected in Castiglione’s "Three Sheep Bring Prosperity" are analyzed in depth,including research on the work itself,the symbolic meaning of sheep in Chinese and Western painting,and the comparison and fusion of "Three Sheep Bring Prosperity" with traditional Chinese and Western painting.In the fourth part,the influence of Castiglione’s Chinese-Western fusion spirit on the author is explored,and the author’s own creative practice is combined to show the inspiration gained.In the fifth part,the conclusion,it is stated that Castiglione came to China during a time of cultural conflict between the East and the West,and he learned new painting techniques and combined Western and Chinese painting to create a unique painting system.This innovative spirit not only inspires the author but also inspires other painters to gain inspiration from it.Studying and practicing Castiglione’s art and sheep paintings are necessary as they fill a gap in the research of Castiglione’s sheep paintings and provide a feasible exploration path for sheep painting today.It also provides assistance to the author’s personal development.In this era of East-West cultural exchange,painting cannot remain stagnant and must merge with the trend of the times,which is in line with the requirements of cultural development.
