The Inspiration Of Wu Changshuo’s Seal Character Study To My Creation

In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,stele-style calligraphy had reached its heyday.Numerous newly discovered ancient calligraphy works provided calligraphers with creative nourishment,thus forming a distinctive artistic look in the process of writing.The emergence and development of Wu Changshuo’s artistic style is a typical product of this period.His calligraphy is widely adopted,including the inscription of Qin and Han dynasties stone tablets,all kinds of scripts,and the fusion of different stylistic features into his brushwork.Among various calligraphy scripts,the one with the highest achievement and the most obvious style is his seal script,which is rooted in the Drum-Stone inscriptions,but is not confined to it.Combining the achievements of his predecessors and his own understanding,it forms a unique style of seal script with the feeling of bronze and stone,which opens up a new path for future generations to learn calligraphy.This paper studies Wu Changshuo’s travels and copying in various periods and try to deduce the complete lineage of his mastery and acquisition of seal script.On this basis,it conducts a staged study of his seal script style in order to examine the process of its creation and form a more three-dimensional and full understanding of Wu Changshuo’s seal script style,so as to inspire people to examine Wu Changshuo’s calligraphic art in a more comprehensive perspective.At the same time,the study of Wu Changshuo’s seal script is a comparative analysis of his disciples’ inheritance and the changes of his style in later generations,and an analysis of the meaning of the generation of Wu Changshuo’s seal script style.The study of Wu Changshuo’s seal script is a study that combines his own practice of copying and creation with the study of his artistic spirit of "making new with the past" and provides a reference path for future generations of calligraphers.
