Family factors play a crucial role in the development of children with special needs during their growth. The main purpose of this study is to systematically explore the mechanisms by which the negative performance of fathers in co-parenting within the family affects the behavior problems of children with special needs, and the possible mediating role of maternal psychological control and parenting burnout in it,which has far-reaching practical implications for the promotion of family education and children’s mental health. In this study, the Simple Co-Relationship Scale, the Strengths and Difficulties Scale, the Psychological Control Scale, and the Parenting Burnout Scale were selected to investigate the internal relationships among four variables, including father co-parenting,maternal psychological control, maternal parenting burnout, and problem behaviors of special children, among 392 mothers of special children. The findings of the study revealed that:(1)Fathers’ co-parenting and special children’s problem behaviors were at high levels;mothers’ psychological control was at a moderate to low level.(2)There were specific differences in the degree of children’s impairments in mothers’ psychological control, specific differences in the degree of children’s impairments in attention deficit and peer relationship problems in special children, and specific differences in the gender of children with special children’s peer relationship problems.(3)Paternal co-parenting significantly predicted problem behavior performance in children with special needs.(4)Maternal psychological control and maternal parenting burnout played simple mediating roles between paternal co-parenting and problem behaviors of exceptional children, respectively, while maternal psychological control and maternal parenting burnout played chain mediating roles between paternal co-parenting and problem behaviors of exceptional children. This study has important enlightenment significance, prompting parents to establish a good co-parenting relationship, reasonably handle the conflict between the two parties,so as to reduce the negative emotions of the mother, and adopt positive parenting methods to promote the healthy development of children.
