Psychological Counselors’ Therapist Belief And Compassion Fatigue:The Role Of Self-compassion And Its Intervention | | Posted on:2024-01-14 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Q Zhang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2555307067499644 | Subject:Applied psychology | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | From the perspective of emotion regulation theory of self-compassion and conservation of resources theory,this study examines the relationship between therapist belief and compassion fatigue,as well as the possible mediating role of self-compassion in this process;Then it designs a targeted self-compassion group intervention program and tests its effectiveness,providing a feasible method for psychological counselors to prevent and alleviate compassion fatigue.Study 1 examines the relationship between therapist belief,self-compassion and compassion fatigue among counselors.A total of 146 valid questionnaires were collected,taking the Therapist Belief Scale,Self-compassion Scale,Psychological Counselors Compassion Fatigue Scale and Demographic Questionnaire as the research tools.SPSS 23.0 was used for descriptive analysis,correlation analysis and mediator effect testing.The results showed that therapist belief significantly positively predicted compassion fatigue,and self-compassion played a mediating role in it.Study 2 explored the intervention effect of the online short-term self-compassion group project on counselors’ compassion fatigue.The intervention was conducted with a pre and post-test design of the experimental group and waiting group.Seventeen selected subjects were randomly divided into the experimental group and the waiting group.The experimental group got online self-compassion group intervention twice a week for four weeks,and the waiting group was in a blank control state for four weeks.Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention through quantitative and qualitative analysis.The comparison between the pre and post-test changes found that the counselors in the experimental group got a decrease in compassion fatigue that is close to the significant p-value,indicating that the intervention was effective.The conclusion of this study is that therapist belief is a risk factor of compassion fatigue;short-term online group intervention based on self-compassion can alleviate compassion fatigue among counselors.Finally,the article discusses the implications of this study for the growth of psychological counselors. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | compassion fatigue, psychological counselors, therapist belief, self-compassion, online group intervention | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
