| Architecture is a kind of solidified culture.As a ritual building,the Confucius Temple has become a "living fossil" of Chinese culture and education.Following the course of history,after the Confucius Temple was created,it has either been repaired,rebuilt,expanded,preserved to this day,or destroyed,remolded and transformed.The cultural and educational functions carried by its space have also changed several times.The spatial memory of the Confucius Temple deeply reflects the political stance,social relations and educational value of different eras.Created in the Southern Song Dynasty,Jiading Confucius Temple has been repaired and expanded.In the Yuan dynasty,it has been to form a relatively independent establishment in the layout of “school in the left” and “temple in the right”.During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty,the Danghu Academy was built,forming a rare three-in-one building structure of temple,school and academy in the country,which reflects the intertwined relationship between "Confucian orthodoxy" and "political orthodoxy".After the abolition of the imperial examinations in the late Qing Dynasty,the traditional meaning and value of the Confucius Temple was challenged.During the Republic of China,the Jiading Confucius Temple space was divided and rebuilt.The temple-school part was built as the mass education museum.The Danghu Academy was set up as a modern school.The Jiading Confucius Temple thus became an important place for social education and school education.It was endowed with the meaning of a modern nation-state construction.Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the Jiading Confucius Temple was first built as a public Jiading rice factory.Later,after the government re-planned and constructed,the library,museum,and cultural center were moved into the Confucius Temple.In 1987,the Jiading Confucius Temple was all managed and used by the Jiading Museum,and assumed the important functions of public education and social education.Since then,it has been gradually transformed into a new thematic museum.Using the development of existing resources and information technology,it has continuously tried to break through the physical meaning of the Confucius Temple.Utilizing its space and regional culture,the museum paid attention to exhibitions,activities and research,and also became a cultural institution with academic orientation.Based on a long-term perspective,looking at the development process of Jiading Confucius Temple in Shanghai,although the educational purposes of Jiading Confucius Temple have been different in different periods,and the cultural-educational functions carried by Jiading Confucian Temple are also different,"education" is one of the consistent historical clues.At the same time,behind the continuation and creation of the cultural-educational space of Jiading Confucius Temple are the use,layout and expansion of space in different periods according to the choice of political needs and political factors.The attitude towards Confucianism represented by Confucius is also an important part of its space.Both of the factors profoundly reflects the complex interweaving between culture,belief and politics.In addition,the successful transformation of Jiading Confucius Temple in the contemporary era reflects the various possibilities of creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional education and culture,which also provides us with valuable thinking paths and practical experience for thinking about the contemporary transformation of traditional cultural and educational spaces. |
