The psychological text is an important text type.On the one hand,it has a diverse readership;on the other hand,as domestic and foreign exchanges are getting closer, more and more foreign psychological works are introduced into China, and a considerable part of them are in English. This thesis, using The History of Psychology(Excerpt)as a case study, discusses the English-Chinese translation of psychological texts based on the three rules of the Skopos Theory advocated by Hans Vermeer, namely, the skopos rule, the coherence rule, and the fidelity rule.First, this paper analyzes the characteristics of the text being translated, locates the translation difficulties the author encounters in the translation process, and discusses the applicability of the three rules of the Skopos Theory to the translation of psychological texts. Then using the three rules as a framework and examples from the text being translated, the author elaborates on the specific methods such as liberal translation and addition used to tackle the translation difficulties. The objective is to achieve the purpose of the text for science popularization based on translation coherence and fidelity.
